“This means that people who live with dementia can feel reassured that they won’t be a burden when out in the community as more people are aware of their condition and are able to support them.”

Caremark Oldham is a local, family owned domiciliary care business, based in Springhead, who offer a specialist dementia service. “We have given staff the expertise to support people who are living with dementia, ensuring we improve their experience as well as that of their carers and family, said Helan Graham (joint Managing Director).

“Dementia affects people in different ways so it’s about knowing the person well enough to establish a relationship. “We look at the person as a whole and take in their life history, their previous employment and interests to ensure they and their family feel comfortable with us. “Our calls to dementia patients are at least an hour long so there is no rushing, and we ensure there is continuity of care among our small specialist team.

“Not only can the client benefit but families can have some time off knowing their relative is being looked after by a dedicated team with expert knowledge.”

Stephanie said: “Dementia is a growing condition for our ageing population and we want to ensure that as a company we can meet any future needs. “A lot of people struggle for such long time by themselves and don’t realise the support they can get. As a care provider, we aim to give people quality of life as well as quality of service.”
