The Mayor’s Fundraising Committee has been nominated for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for their efforts in supporting the local community.

One of their fundraising events, this week, included enjoying a Tapas evening held at the Navigation Inn in Dobcross.  They raised over £200 for the Mayor of Oldham’s Charity Year.

Neil Cadd of the MFC told Saddleworth News: ” The committee is doing some sterling work this year as they do every year raising in the region of £40k thanks to the generosity of the people in Oldham. This year we have been nominated for a Queens Award, the community equivalent of an MBE apparently, the first time a mayor’s charity has been nominated so fingers crossed. The charity has raised in the region of £1.7 million pounds since its inception all of which has gone into the local community and with everyone’s help that number will keep on growing . ”

Neil told us: “We had a great evening with some fantastic food prepared for us by the staff at the Navigation who kindly host this event every year. It was good to see some new faces along with the ‘regulars’ this year and we raised over £200 on the night.”

“This is my first year serving on the committee, the mayor knew I had been involved with fundraising for the cricket club where both or son’s played and asked me if I would come and be part of his year in office which I took as a great privilege.”
