Good Report For Saddleworth School

Saddleworth School's current location in Uppermill.

Saddleworth School has received a glowing report from official inspectors. Ofsted described the school as “good, with outstanding features” after visiting the Uppermill site for two days last month.

The school featured prominently in the recent by-election campaign, following the government’s decision to shelve plans for a new building at Diggle. The development had been promised as part of the last Labour administration’s Building Schools for the Future programme, which was dismissed as too expensive and bureaucratic by the coalition.

However, there’s still hope that government money might be available for either significant renovation or a new building for Saddleworth School. David Cameron hinted as much in an interview with Saddleworth News earlier this month.

When asked directly about Saddleworth School, the Prime Minister said: “We are going ahead with a £14bn programme of school building and refurbishment, and there’ll be plenty of opportunities for new school building and school refurbishment, including in this constituency.”

All three main party candidates said during the by-election campaign that they would keep fighting for new investment for Saddleworth School, but all agreed they couldn’t make any specific promises. Now that she’s been elected, a key task for our new MP Debbie Abrahams in her early months in the job will be to see what she can do to help turn that pledged government investment for Oldham East and Saddleworth into bricks and mortar at Saddleworth School.

There is no room for a school in Diggle! Can no one see that? The road on the end of huddersfield road is already a pain to get through with all the parked cars!
