Improvements Made To Canal Towpath

Work to improve the towpath of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Uppermill and Dobcross has been completed. The stretch between the centre of Uppermill and Wool Road in Dobcross has been resurfaced and widened.

The improvements were carried out by Oldham Council. More work is promised later in the year on the towpath between Uppermill and Frenches Wharf in Greenfield.

In a statement, Cllr John McCann, who holds the Regeneration and Environment portfolio in the Liberal Democrat/Conservative administration, and sits for Saddleworth South as a Lib Dem, said: “The canal network in the borough is an excellent way for people to enjoy the local environment which is on their doorstep. These towpath improvements will ensure the canals remain easily accessible for everyone at all times of the year – are clearly signed – and easy to find.”

Similar work was also carried out on a section of the Rochdale Canal in Failsworth. You can read the council’s press statement in full here.
