Improvements Made To Pennine Bridleway

An improved stretch of the Pennine Bridleway (picture: EFL)

Improvements have been made to a section of the Pennine Bridleway near Uppermill. The work was carried out by Environmental Fieldwork Ltd, and they’ve kindly sent me an article about what they’ve been doing, which is below.

“Environmental Fieldwork Ltd have just completed work on a section of the Pennine Bridleway National Trail running from the Saddleworth swimming pool up to Butterhouse Lane.

“Upgrading the northern, very steep winding section, needed all of EFL’s experience and expertise to renovate effectively. All work was executed to National Trail Quality Standards as set by Natural England and monitored by the Unity Partnership of Oldham Council,

“As well as completely removing and replacing the surface with a more suitable base, field drainage was installed and repairs to the bridge fencing and spindles were also undertaken.

“Comments from walkers, bikers and horse riders alike are very appreciative of the work done to a path that was muddy underfoot and often waterlogged.”

There’s more information about EFL at their website here.
