Mossley Light Festival

A huge carnival inspired lantern parade will bring an ancient Tame Valley legend to life. Building on the success of last year’s nocturnal cavalcade, Mossley Light Festival returns on Saturday 25 November 2017.

This year’s theme – A Tale of Two Giants – tells the story of the colossal Alphin and Alder and how they fought for the love of beautiful water nymph Rimmon. The age-old love triangle will be played out by large-scale and illuminated puppets that have been created especially for the event. Towering over the scores of musicians, dancers and bearers of handcrafted-lanterns that make up the moving spectacle, the love struck trio will wend their way from Bottom Mossley to the town’s market ground.

Two great hills at the entrance to Tame Valley – Alphin Pike and Alderman’s Hill – are said to have been the homes of the duelling giants, whilst Rimmon

The parade starts from outside Emmaus on Queen Street at around 5.30pm.
