Oldham Mountain Rescue Team In Successful Charity Day
Members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team took part in a charity adventure day in the Peak District last Friday, and later hailed the event as a huge success.
OMRT joined representatives from the Peak District’s other six mountain rescue teams for the fun day, which was held in aid of three charities with royal connections.
The good causes were homeless charity Centrepoint, and the Child Bereavement Charity, both of which have Prince William as patron, as well as the charity for seriously ill children and their families, Wellchild, which is supported by Prince Harry.
Youngsters from each got the opportunity to try outdoor pursuits, including caving, hillwalking, climbing and abseiling.
Katie Johnson, who chairs the Uppermill-based rescue team, said: “Friday was the most wonderful and humbling day I have had in all my years in mountain rescue. It was a privilege to spend the day with some very inspirational children.”
The first of these charity days took place in 2009, and this was the first to be held in the Peak District. Prince William is also the patron of Mountain Rescue England and Wales, the national umbrella organisation for mountain rescue teams.
