Oldham theatre invites you to celebrate Christmas early with a classic Ayckbourn comedy
Lyceum Theatre Oldham continues its season with Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious, rarely-performed comedy LIFE & BETH (11-19 November 2016).
Set in the living room of recently-bereaved Beth, preparations are underway for a low-key first Christmas without her husband. However, her gregarious, inappropriate family have other ideas of how to help her get over herself! Frustrated and tired, Beth soon realises it’s more than the living who want to remind her of her former life.
LIFE & BETH is actually the third in a trilogy of Ayckbourn plays named THINGS THAT GO BUMP. However, it stands on its own as a ghostly comedy exposing the awkwardness of family get-togethers alongside a subconscious inability to let go.
This production is directed by local retired teacher Ian Orry, who regularly directs, performs and designs sets for Lyceum Theatre Oldham, as well as other amateur theatre companies in the area.
Lyceum Theatre Oldham achieved unprecedented success last season, with all its shows selling out, often before the production even opened. Many more people are enjoying the new seating and special atmosphere of this wonderful basement theatre in the centre of Oldham.
