Operation Caminada recovers drugs and firearms

Drugs and weapons were recovered during a raid at a flat in Hollinwood as part of an ongoing operation in the Oldham area.

Shortly after 4.30pm on Wednesday 21 March 2012, officers from the Operation Caminada team executed a drugs warrant at a flat on Byron Street.

Class A drugs worth an estimated £2,000, some cannabis as well as drugs paraphernalia was seized.

Officers also recovered a crossbow and Black Walther CP88 .177 calibre gas powered air pistol.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and possessing of cannabis.

He has been bailed until 16 July 2012 pending further inquiries.

Chief Superintendent Tom Forber, divisional commander for Oldham, said: “This is yet another excellent result in our ongoing fight against those involved in organised crime.

“Thanks to the officers deployed in the Operation Caminada team, we have taken yet more drugs and potentially deadly weapons off the streets.

“The focus of the operation is to rid the town of drugs and bring those involved in its sale and supply to justice.

“We are keeping our communities fully updated about this operation and our continued success and I know they are fully supportive of our activity.

“As always, their information is vitally important, and if anyone knows anything about those involved in drug or any other criminal activity I would urge them to get in touch.”
