Police Take Action Over Lark Hill Off-Road Bikers

Our local police have taken action over what they have described as “unacceptable” damage caused to the disused Lark Hill Quarry above Dobcross.

Concerns had been raised by both local parish councillors and officials at the Brownhill Countryside Centre regarding off-road bikers using the area.

Now, after a meeting at the site between councillors and officers, the police have said regular patrols of the land will now take place.

In an e-mail which was passed to Saddleworth News by Cllr Ken Hulme, Pc Mark Clough said he’d also met the landowner, who confirmed that no permission had been given for anyone to use motorised vehicles at the old quarry.

Pc Clough revealed that the landowner is now in the process of putting up signs and fences to discourage any further incidents.

Cllr Hulme praised Pc Clough, and said: “Let’s hope this puts an end to this appalling vandalism of a local beauty spot and important habitat.”
