A local cycling group have organised a guided off road cycle ride around Saddleworth.

The RSF Off Road Cycling Club, have organised a leisurely guided off road cycle ride to explore the countryside of Saddleworth and beyond using the many bridleways, tow-paths, tracks and country lanes that abound in the area.

They will meet at the Lime Kiln Cafe, Brownhills Visitor Centre, Uppermill on Tuesday January 14th (and every second Tuesday in the Month) in time for a 10.00am start – with new participants welcome.

They say this will be an all day ride and lunch will be taken in a pub or cafe en route. They aim to be back around 3.30pm, but advise riders to bring their cycle lights just in case they are required.

I hope the local plod take as much interest in these “off road” cyclists as they took in our “green road” motorcycle rides some years ago.
We were threatened with prosecution, even though we had researched the route and ascertained that it was on green roads and therefore totally legal.
Plod was not interested and threatened to go over the machines with a fine tooth comb UNTIL they found something to prosecute us with.
I will not be holding my breath though as plod ignores illegal riding on pavements, riding through red traffic lights and general ignoring of the laws of the road by cyclists.

by ‘some’ cyclists, you mean, of course.

  • Victor Meldrew says:

OK should have said “most” cyclists.

  • Grimpeur says:

In which case, do “most” car drivers (uninsured, naturally, and without either driving licenses or valid MOT certificates) drunkenly mount pavements and end up hitting people queueing at bus stops?

I suspect you may need to put down the Daily Mail and step away from the sweeping generalisations.
