Saddleworth Rangers Keep Title Hopes Alive
Saddleworth Rangers remain in contention to win rugby league’s National Conference League Division One. They beat Normanton Knights by 14 points to 4 on Saturday to stay top of the table with just three games to play.
Their closest rivals, Bradford Dudley Hill, are still a single point behind following a 40-38 victory at Myton Warriors. Third-placed Thatto Heath Crusaders could be the biggest threat to Saddleworth’s title hopes though. A 42-6 win away to West Bowling keeps them three points adrift with four games in hand.
You can view the table and the other results here. The top three teams from Division One will be promoted to the Premier Division for next season.
Meanwhile, in football, Mossley’s hopes of an unlikely run to a play-off place receded further with a 2-1 defeat away to the leaders of the Unibond Division One North, Lancaster City. Substitute Mike Fish looked to have won a point for Mossley with an 85th minute equaliser of Adam Farrell’s opener for City. However, Farrell got the home side’s winner with a minute to go.
The result leaves Mossley 11th in the table, a full 14 points off the last of the play-off places, currently held by Curzon Ashton. The table is here, and there’s a full match report at the Mossley website here.
In the Manchester League, Springhead beat Manchester Gregorians 2-0 to move up to 8th in the table, which you can see here.
But there was disappointment for Diggle and Uppermill, as both sides lost their Huddersfield and District League Division One matches. Diggle were beaten 2-0 away by Heywood Irish Centre, with Uppermill losing at home to Britannia Sports by the same score.
In the table, Diggle remain 4th with Uppermill dropping a place to 6th. You can see more at the league’s official website here.
