Save Diggle Action Group welcome Oldham Council’s decision over new school
Save Diggle Action Group (SDAG) has welcomed a decision by Oldham Council to seek the views of local people over the siting of the new Saddleworth School.
A spokesperson told Saddleworth News: “We are delighted that Oldham Council are finally seeking the views of the people of Saddleworth on the choice of school site. The fact that they have also stated categorically that they will make the final decision is also welcome.
“It is surprising that this consultative exercise was not announced at the council meeting on February 4 and, in view of this intention, why the council ignored the input of 3000 petitioners and prematurely voted to locate the school in Diggle.”
A Saddleworth News poll was recently set up online and is still running to gauge current public opinion over the choice of new school site.
I really don’t believe now that this matter can be settled in the best interest of the Saddleworth children, following the protracted debate with entrenched views and petty political actions reported of the Oldham Council. This matter is far too impotent for political shenanigans and popularity Vox populi from entrenched partisan interest.
Too resolve this situation, I can only think of one possible solution that is for both sides to agree on a independent business management consultant to carry out a comprehensive feasibility study to an agreed investigation parameter with an understanding that the reported result of the this independent study will be accepted to both parties.
For God sake !!! This is not a poll of true representation of the position of a much needed new school for Saddleworth ., this does not reflect a true local opinion of the residents of Saddleworth that are truly affected by this decision . This is a poll of a group of very opinionated one sided locals and those they can get on their side . It affects our children !!!! Not the people putting their opinions forward !! Our children !! It must stop soon . Get the school built . Make the final decision and do it , and do it in a place that children are not affected and do NOT have their education affected .
You are going to mess it up with the traffic. It is bedlam already at rush hour. I’m all for the new school but I’m worried about the light pollution from the flood lit pitch and traffic congestion. I’m sure that the “true opinioned saddleworth locals” would be singing a different song if it were to be built infront of their house?
From an opinioned digglite!!!
