Snow Returns

Diggle Brook near Wool Road this morning

Another snowfall has led to road closures and the cancellation of bus services in and around Saddleworth today. The Met Office had issued a warning yesterday that snow would start falling from about 2 o’clock this morning, and sure enough there was a decent covering by breakfast time with the odd flake continuing to fall.

Unsurprisingly, the A635 Greenfield to Holmfirth road was closed. Also shut was the A640 Huddersfield Road, with the stretches between Denshaw and Newhey, and Denshaw and Round Ings Road near the M62, both out of action. In Kirklees, buses were badly affected, with West Yorkshire Metro suspending the 81, 82, 431, 536 and 537 services.

The Met Office says there’ll be further snowfalls later, with temperatures tonight dropping to about -5C. We can expect more of the same tomorrow, with temperatures unlikely to get above freezing and more snow likely.
