Strange Goings On At Heights Church

Some unusual news from St Thomas’s Church at Heights above Delph. Last weekend, a man was found having a snooze in one of the old tombs in the churchyard!
Delph-based parish councillor Ken Hulme takes up the story: “On Saturday morning a woman who cares for the historic churchyard was clearing away rubbish when she saw one of the raised tombs dating from 1806 had been damaged and the front stone had been removed. Looking inside she saw a figure in a hooded coat lying in the crypt (just enough room for one body).
“Shocked she not surprisingly called the emergency services. When they arrived they found a middle aged man, lean and looking the worse for wear. Apparently the chap had Delph connections and the police were looking for him – but what a place to choose for a kip – one of the scariest spots in Saddleworth – and we have quite a few.”
