Stunning Cup Win For Delph And Dobcross

Delph and Dobcross got their competitive cricket season off to a remarkable start over the weekend. Not only did they win their first Huddersfield League match on Saturday, they put holders Wrenthorpe out of the Heavy Woollen Cup yesterday.

The cup victory was quite a turnaround, after Wrenthorpe thrashed D&D at the same stage of last season’s competition.

New fast bowler Adnan Ghaus claimed the vital early wicket of Wrenthorpe captain Gary Fellows for a duck, and the visitors never recovered, as they were eventually dismissed for just 118. Faisal Butt was the pick of the bowlers with 5/24.

Despite losing two early wickets, including professional Bilal Khiljee without scoring, Delph and Dobcross moved to an eight wicket victory thanks to an unbroken century stand between Irfan Zahoor and Butt, who took man of the match honours.

In Saturday’s league game, Barkisland found themselves on the receiving end of a remarkable debut performance by Ghaus, who took 7/58 to reduce the home side to 144 all out. Bruce Cruse then top scored with 63 as D&D completed a seven wicket win.
