Success For Coast To Coast Challenge Cyclists
Six cyclists from Saddleworth have successfully completed a ride from coast to coast, in aid of the Uppermill-based Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
Jonny Eglin from Friezland, Adey Bennett from Greenfield, Andy Hill of Diggle, and three riders who live in Uppermill, Ian Kelly, Duncan Spellman and Nick Hodgson, took on the 210-mile challenge from the Lakes to Whitby.
They stuck as closely as possible to the route made famous by walker and writer Alfred Wainwright, and used nearby cycle routes to cross the country.
Andy told Saddleworth News they completed the challenge without too many mishaps. He said: “It was hard going with an average of nine hours a day in the saddle, over 26,000 feet of ascent and some fantastic downhill sections to get the adrenaline flowing. We have raised over £1,500 so far and it’s still coming in.”
