Success For Marsden Crossing Campaigners

A campaign to get a new pedestrian crossing put in outside Marsden Junior School has ended in success. Kirklees Council has confirmed that a crossing will be built to help children and parents get safely across the busy Manchester Road.

Parents say vehicles often don’t stop for children, and sometimes travel faster than the speed limit. A campaign site was set up on Facebook and it now has more than 300 members.

The council carried out a traffic survey last month which confirmed the road qualifies to get a new crossing. Highways officers have since carried out site surveys and are beginning to plan the work. Local councillors have also supported the campaign.

Campaign leader Jane Horn said: “We have been without a school crossing patrol for far too long now. There have been too many near misses.”
