A polling station in Dobcross on general election day in May. We'll be seeing these signs again soon.

Free tickets are now available for a debate among the by-election candidates in Delph this Sunday. The hustings meeting will take place at the Millgate Arts Centre from 2:30pm, just four days before we go to the polls to decide who should be our next MP.

In the chair will be one of the village’s best-known faces, Bob Rodgers. The event is being organised by the Delph Traffic Group and the Delph Community Association.

Entry will be by free ticket only. To get yours, contact either Cllr Ken Hulme or Phillida Shipp.

Cllr Hulme can be reached by phone on 01457 872859 or via e-mail ken-at-councillorkenhulme-dot-co-dot-uk. Mrs Shipp’s details are 01457 875171 and phillida-at-shipp-dot-org.

Meanwhile, the Oldham Chronicle is putting on a hustings event at Denshaw Village Hall this Thursday at 7pm. Details of how to apply for a ticket are available at the paper’s Twitter page here.

What a disgrace that Derek Adams the BNP candidate was forcibly removed by police on the excuse that he had not been invited.

Why hadn’t he been invited? The BNP polled more votes in the general election than UKIP, and they got an invite and let us not forget that this by-election is only taking place because of racist remarks made by the former Labour party MP.

This is the kind of political bias last implemented by Robert Mugabe. Those responsible should hang their heads in shame. You know who you are, and so do we.

The fact that not all the parties were allowed to speak at this meeting speaks volumes about the political bias of the Delph Traffic Group and the Delph Community Association!

  • Korky Cat says:

This is just another example of “mainstream politics” suppressing and denying a voice to those who dare to disagree with their dangerous and deluded ideologies. The people of this constituency would do well to find out for themselves exactly what Mr Adams’ anti-democratic opponents are trying to hide by denying him his right to freedom of speech in this disgraceful fashion. The voters have the right to hear all views and opinions and make up their own minds. The ruling elite of the “Three Main Parties” know only too well that voters who know the truth are very unlikley to still vote for them.
