Update On Diggle Runner’s Charity Challenge

Tom Robinson

Diggle fundraiser Tom Robinson is closing in on his target of 100 10k runs in as many days.

Tom, who is doing the challenge in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, is now three-quarters of the way through.

He also told Saddleworth News about one of his runs, number 58, which proved particularly special.

Tom said: “Over the past month I’ve started to dedicate runs to children who, like my son, have Type-1 diabetes, to take the spotlight away from me and to raise awareness.”

He explained that he’d been contacted by Julia Roebuck, originally from Saddleworth but now living in Exeter, who has a toddler with Type-1 diabetes. Julia has been following Tom’s progress online, and so he dedicated his run on Sunday 7 August to her son.

Tom said: “What I wasn’t expecting was a cheering party and huge banner waiting for me as I passed Julia’s sister-in-law’s house on Shaw Hall Bank Road in Greenfield. It was really emotional, getting this level of support from people I’d never met before, the only connection was that I was I was dedicating that run for their nephew.”

He added: “After that I ran back the final three miles at race pace, it was a real high.”

The last of Tom’s 100 runs will be next month’s Great North Run on Tyneside, which is a half-marathon. If you’d like to donate to Tom’s appeal, you can do so via his JustGiving page here.
