Uppermill Band’s tribute to keyworkers

Despite being unable to rehearse together Uppermill Band have been busy during this period of lockdown.  Uppermill Band have recorded a musical tribute to all key workers, with grateful thanks for all they are doing to keep us safe. This “concert in the living room” was recorded by individual players in lockdown and brought together using the wonders of technology! Enjoy this performance of “Under The Boardwalk” which includes our own key workers and features John Whittle on flugel horn.

In addition to being musically active during the past few weeks members of Uppermill Band have been volunteering to make face shields for carers. This volunteer group was co-ordinated by  Bexan Ltd, led by solo horn Gillian Kirkby, and produced 5,000 face shields which were distributed to 150 different care providers.

This is a few sentences from Gillian Kirkby, solo horn Uppermill Band; “Our business Bexan Ltd, was closed and we wanted to do something to make a difference to our community. We started with just us and our furloughed staff. Once my friends at UppermillĀ Band found out what we were doing we were inundated with offers of help. We of course took up the offers and ended up providing over 5000 face shields to local organisations that truly needed them”
