An 11-year-old swimmer from Grasscroft has had the most successful season of his young sporting career.

Dylan Arzoni, who swims for the famous Stockport Metro club, won a gold and a bronze at last month’s National Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

He also won two golds and two bronzes at the North West Championships in Manchester in June, breaking the North West record for 100m backstroke in the process.

Dad Steve, who got in touch with Saddleworth News to share the details of his son’s success, said: “We’re all really proud of what Dylan has achieved this season.”

He added: “He’s worked incredibly hard at Stockport Metro during training and competitions and he certainly reaped the benefits in Sheffield at the Nationals.”

Dylan said: “I was really pleased with my swims at the Nationals, I got new personal best times in my events and to win two medals, especially a gold, was brilliant.”

He also revealed he’s been inspired by Stockport clubmate James Goddard, a Commonwealth champion and Olympian, who he sees at training sessions.
