Update On A62 Huddersfield Road Crash

Two people were injured in Thursday afternoon’s crash on the A62 Huddersfield Road above Diggle.
The smash happened not far from the old Floating Light pub, just before 5pm.
According to a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, the two vehicles involved were an Audi and a BMW.
Both injured women had been travelling in the Audi. The more seriously hurt of the two suffered a suspected broken shoulder.
Three fire engines were called to the scene to help get the women out of their stricken vehicle. Two ambulances also attended.
The incident closed Huddersfield Road from the junction with Standedge Road next to the old Horse and Jockey, up to the Floating Light. Traffic was diverted through Diggle village while the closure was in place.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the crash, although road conditions were wet at the time following another day of rain. There was also a bit of mist around.
Road crashes on the A62 in Saddleworth have become increasingly rare in recent years. There were just three incidents last year in which someone was injured, notably lower than average of more than seven per year from the years 2000 to 2009.
