Community Pull Results

The Community Pull has been a 3 month period when Community Groups, Charities, CICs and non-profit organisations have had the opportunity to publish details or reports about their organisations. They were guaranteed to be included. This was achieved with the backing of Action Together’s Oldham Community Recovery Fund. It enabled the small volunteering team at Saddleworth Life to work with the groups, offer copy writing and a guaranteed inclusion in the online magazine.

Our findings over the 3 month period were as follows:

The uptake of the offer to the groups was good. In a post project survey, we had a response rate of 14% of all those invited to feedback- 90% of those groups report that they need to communicate with the public mainly to tell them details about changes as a result of restrictions, and alternatives offered – such as online group meets instead, and social distancing meets. 75% of those responding used the service.

They estimated that 418 people on average benefitted from articles and features per group and over 3,300 people benefitted overall, knowing the reach of the site. Our web statistics mirror this number. 100% asked for the same support ongoing, as many of them are non-funded or on a very limited budget.

Responses from the survey ( anonymous, and from different responders)  included these quotes:

‘It is very useful to know it is there – we are not doing very much at the moment but appreciate efforts to bring us all together. We may be building some more virtual activities over the next few months and envisage using it more then.’

‘It’s useful to know that this local publication will publish details of our events and activities, helping us to get word out to the wider community. We have seen attendance at our events grow over the last few years, and Saddleworth Life has undoubtedly played a part in helping to drive that growth.’

‘Creating a dialogue with Saddleworth Life helps us provide publicity for activities that would normally be taking place the Satellite Centre.’

‘This has helped to raise awareness of Saddleworth Peace Group and its activities’

‘raised profile of our work’

‘It has allowed me to send as much as I need for the breathe group and to have a banner on the site to enable regular advertising of the group. It’s been great thankyou! ‘

Feedback otherwise over the period:

‘Worked with a volunteer to pull together a release for their impending activities once lockdown and Covid restrictions allow. It certainly has benefitted us and we’re forever grateful. What you are doing is fantastic and is also making a huge difference to spreading awareness for what we do.’ Adam Ward – Outdoor Collaborative

Thank you for the opportunity (to submit articles over the last few months). I think the work you’re doing and is fantastic. You’re providing a platform for young writers like myself – one which I might not otherwise of had. What a wonderful thing. When I’m a successful novelist, you’ll certainly have my thanks.
