Mossley Striker Signs For Top Portuguese Side
It’s not every day that a player swaps the Evo Stik Division One North for top-flight football in a major European league, but that’s exactly what Mossley prospect Fabio Abreu has done.
The teenager has signed for Maritimo, who play in Portugal’s Primeira Liga.
Fabio put in a series of impressive performances in Mossley’s youth and reserve sides, before scoring with his first touch as a senior player against Fylde in April. He also earned three caps at England U18 level, scoring twice in a 3-2 victory over the Republic of Ireland.
According to a Mossley club statement, Fabio has agreed a three-year deal with the Madeira-based side, which includes a one-year scholarship followed by a two-season professional contract.
Fabio recently spent time on trial with another Portuguese club, Benfica. The Mossley statement added: “Fabio goes with the best wishes of everyone at Mossley Football Club.”
And in case you’re wondering, today’s weather in Madeira is sunny with highs of 21C. Bit of a contrast to what it’s like over here!
