Saddleworth police patrols caught up in flood drama

A patrol car moves slowly out.

Police patrols, some destined for Saddleworth, faced difficulty getting out of Chadderton Police Station this afternoon due to a burst water main.

The mains pipe burst causing a large flood just outside the main car park entrance, resulting in problems for some cars leaving the station en route to the Saddleworth area.

Some visitors to the station complained their cars had started to stall after attempting to drive through the deep water. Water board workers later turned up and managed to shut off the main pipe, allowing the water to settle and eventually drain away.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told Saddleworth News: “The burst water main has not affected policing and response times in the area.”

A much braver officer goes through.
