Delph And Dobcross Slip To Third

Delph and Dobcross have lost first place in cricket’s Huddersfield League. A defeat on Saturday to Honley, following last week’s setback against Kirkburton, means they are now behind both of those sides in third, albeit still just two points off the top.

D&D won the toss and put Honley in on Saturday, and a century stand for the second wicket between Simon Kelly (104) and Max Joice (76) proved the foundation of a total of 219/5 from 50 overs. Arron Lilley was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4/61.

In reply, D&D were in trouble when three of their top batsmen were back in the pavilion with 52 on the board, and despite 58 from Bruce Cruse, they came up short scoring 179/7. Leg-spinner Tom Craddock took 5/60 for Honley. The full scorecard can be seen at the Delph and Dobcross website here.

The following day, Delph and Dobcross were back in league action at Hoylandswaine. In a match reduced to 45 overs per side, the home side set a testing total of 271/1, opener John Sadler cracking 137 not out off 144 balls.

However, D&D reached their target with seven balls to spare to win by five wickets. Opener Irfan Zahoor top scored with 91, and Cruse added 56. The scorecard is here.

Kirkburton now top the league on 100 points, one ahead of Honley, with Delph and Dobcross a point further back on 98. The table can be viewed here.
