Dove Stone Bus To Start Service

Dove Stone Reservoir

The new tourist bus to Dove Stone Reservoir comes into service this weekend. The “Saddleworth Hopper” will run every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday until 26 September.

The bus follows a route between Greenfield Station, Uppermill and Dove Stone, with extra request stops in Greenfield at the Clarence pub and the Conservative Club. It’s free for anyone with a valid bus or rail ticket to Saddleworth, and for the over 60s. For everyone else the fare is £1 per day.

The first bus will leave Greenfield Station at 10:55am, with the last service leaving Dove Stone at 4:35pm. The buses are scheduled to fit in with the train timetables. Saddleworth Parish Council has funded the bus, which is operated by Mossley-based Checkmate Transport.

Meanwhile, we’re being reminded that a series of events are taking place at Dove Stone every Saturday throughout the summer. The Oldham Council-funded UP@DoveStone features free outdoor activities each Saturday afternoon. Anyone interested in joining in is asked to meet at the sailing club just before 1pm.

The new bus service is a good idea, but why does it depart Greenfield station at 10.55 when the train from Marsden does not arrive until 10.58 and the yorkshire bound train is timed to arrive at 11.06
